Painted from reference photos I took in the entomology room at Liverpool Museum. This cicada instantly stood out to me. It's wings were layered with these amazing textures and warm, metallic tones that almost glowed under the glass. I was drawn to how strange and beautiful it was, like it belonged to another world.
